Only a short distance from Livorno central, these aqueducts are a must see for anyone with an extra hour or two to waste in Livorno.
Construction on these aqueducts, located in Valle Benedetta, northeast of Livorno, were commissioned in 1792 by Ferdinand III. After a few years of delay due to the first Napoleonic occupation of Tuscany, the aqueducts were finished in 1824.
Located in some dense woods, the hike along and on these aqueducts stretches roughly 5km. It’s a fairly easy hike, but these is a few parts where scrambling over rocks will be required.
